About the Artist
Anna Farley is a contemporary mixed media artist based in Austin with roots in Nashville. Her non-representational paintings and collages have a biological sensibility but remain intentionally ambiguous. Anna finds inspiration in the physical world around her from the tangled stems of Texas wildflowers plucked by the side of the road to the loose rocks and sticks emptied from her son’s pockets — the overlooked evidence of things found and kept.
The process of collecting and sorting is a recurring theme in her work. She begins with gestural paintings in ink and gouache on paper and yupo, then carefully cuts, tears and reassembles these parts into new compositions. Anna’s layered approach to art making reflects our impulse to preserve and arrange the artifacts of life as a means to make sense of them.
